Think secret Midtown hideaways where the food is pure magic, where the buzz is quiet but the flavors are loud and unforgettable. Then, there’s the Michelin-starred experiences that’ll redefine your definition of dining. And let’s not forget the Broadway hotel that’s a showstopper in itself, a place where the drama of the stage meets the comfort of a chic stay.

This isn’t just a list; it’s your invitation to experience NYC like a true insider, discovering the aesthetic hotspots that will make your next visit truly unforgettable. Let’s go!
Restaurant: Coqodaq | 12 E 22nd St, New York, NY 10010
Chicken Nuggets + Caviar? Trust Me, You Have to See This Place.
I’ve found your soon-to-be new favorite spot. Prepare to be obsessed. Coqodaq is like the cool kid of the NYC restaurant scene – effortlessly stylish, a little bit quirky, and serving up the most unexpected culinary combinations. Basically, Coqodaq is the epitome of “only in New York.” It’s unexpected, it’s chic, it’s delicious, and it’s guaranteed to make you the coolest person you know for recommending it.
Here, it’s all about Korean fried chicken. Prepare your taste buds for the ‘Golden Nugget’—a single, oblong fried chicken nugget crowned with a luxurious heap of caviar. Yes, you read that right. This $28 indulgence is the culinary equivalent of wearing couture pajamas. It’s the most deliciously unexpected combination, and it’s guaranteed to blow your mind.
After my first bite, I was like, seriously, why has no one ever done this yet?! A truly amazing flavor combo. I’m all about a good “high-low” mashup.

And just so you know, the minute you walk through the door, you’re invited to experience the most luxe hand-washing experience. An array of illuminated mirrors surrounds sinks with a buffet of bottles – all the best soaps – name dropping Hermès, Loewe, and Diptyque to name a few. Suds up!
Seriously, you have to go. It’s the perfect blend of high-end and fun, and it’s guaranteed to become your new favorite spot, too. Just be prepared to explain to everyone why you’re suddenly obsessed with chicken nuggets and caviar.
The next hotspot up the list get my vote for all-around – you can eat, sleep, sip, and chill at this destination…
Hotel, Restaurant, Rooftop Bar: The Civilian | 305 W 48th St, New York, NY 10036
Curtain Call – The Civilian: Broadway’s Best Kept Secret
This place is a love letter to Broadway. The moment you step inside the Civilian Hotel, you’re greeted by marquee-inspired lighting and dramatic curtains that make you feel like you’ve just landed the lead in a Broadway show. It’s like stepping into the spotlight—minus the stage fright.

Now, let’s talk food—because what’s a show without some stellar snacks? First up, the Rosevale Kitchen. Inside, you’ll find a bright dining room with glowing light globes and theater façade sketches by legends like Es Devlin and Tony Walton. And for a more intimate experience, the Blue Room offers a cozy retreat. Encircled with original Broadway memorabilia, this space provides a nostalgic nod to theater history, making it the perfect spot for small gatherings or a quiet evening escape.

Now tune in to this, you want to make sure you don’t want to miss the ultimate secret garden. It’s hidden, and several of my friends completely missed it on their last stay – sad. (Don’t let this happen to you!) This glass-enclosed dining area is adorned with a breathtaking 3,000-piece floral installation by renowned designer Preston Bailey. This vibrant canopy of blooms creates an enchanting atmosphere, making you feel as though you’ve been transported to a whimsical garden in the heart of Manhattan.

Stepping into the guestrooms at the Civilian Hotel is like being handed the keys to your very own Broadway dressing room—minus the pre-show jitters. The larger rooms feature canopy beds, elegant curtains, and details like the vintage-inspired brass toggle switches and custom “do not disturb” signs, adding a touch of old-school glamour to your stay.

Here’s my full disclosure – like many things in NYC, It’s cozy and chic, but there’s not much room. So if you’re bringing a +1 or a full family crew, better hope you reeeeeally like them because you’ll get up close and personal in these small spaces. I was thankful I was doing a solo stay on this one and didn’t have to share my space!
The Civilian Hotel is your one-stop shop, whether you’re looking for Broadway snacks, a pretty brunch, a rooftop rendezvous, or a cozy spot to dream the night away, this place is a showstopper. It’s all the glitz and glam without the paparazzi. Encore!
And if you find yourself working up an appetite while you’re out and about getting your art fix at the MoMA, you’ll definitely want to stop in for a drink or bite at this next venue…
Restaurant: Restaurant 53 | 1369 E 53rd St, Chicago, IL 60615
Palette to Palate: Restaurant 53 in Midtown
Ever wondered what it’s like to dine inside a rainbow? Welcome to Restaurant 53, where colorful ribbons guide you from the bustling streets of NYC into an underground dining paradise. Situated steps from MoMA, this hotspot serves up inventive Asian fusion dishes in a setting that’s both sleek and sophisticated. With interiors that rival the art next door, 53 is the place to see and be seen. Don’t miss out on this fusion of flavor and flair—it’s the talk of the town for all the right reasons.

The restaurant features a sculptural series of rainbow-colored curving fins that cascade from the street-level ceiling down to the underground dining room. It feels like a cascade of colorful ribbons swooping gracefully above you, creating this dynamic, almost kinetic vibe. And – fun fact – this install was inspired by the Nine-Drago Wall reliefs from Chinese imperial palaces. Drop that as a little tidbit to impress your hot date!

Another plus – you’ll look like a million bucks sitting under the golden glow of an ethereal chandelier that twinkles above the bar as you stare at a mural of the Yellow Mountains adding a nice bit of cultural charm. Be sure to try the Toro Tartare, Fluke Kombujime, and the Black Cod Clay Pot. Bon appetit!
Up next is your ultimate home away from home…
Hotel: The Romer Hotel | 851 8th Ave, New York, NY 10019
The Romer Hotel, Hells Kitchen
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Hell’s Kitchen, the Romer Hotel offers a unique blend of local charm and modern comfort with a touch of that native New Yorker swagger. The “Fuhgeddaboutdit” do-not-disturb door hanger says it all. Just west of Broadway and a short stroll from the waterfront, this hotel serves as a neighborhood gathering spot and an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Its design reflects the eclectic character of the area, making guests feel as though they’ve stepped into a local living room. It’s your home away from home, in the heart of America’s most dynamic city.

The guest rooms are a design aficionado’s delight, reminiscent of a bohemian dream apartment. Think vintage-inspired furniture, classic black-and-white tiled bathrooms, and art pieces that look like they’ve been collected over a lifetime—each element thoughtfully curated to reflect the artistic soul of Hell’s Kitchen. It’s like staying at a chic artist’s loft, but with all the plush amenities of a luxury hotel.

But the Romer experience doesn’t stop at your room’s door. The hotel’s public spaces, designed by local firm Goodrich, are intended for both local residents and guests, featuring inviting rooms that transition seamlessly from daytime to night, including a living room, library, communal tables, and a fireplace. It’s the kind of place where locals and guests mingle effortlessly, sharing stories over artisanal coffee by day and craft cocktails by night. And speaking of cocktails, don’t miss So & So’s, the hotel’s speakeasy-inspired piano bar by night.

At Romer Hell’s Kitchen, you’re not just visiting New York; you’re becoming a part of its story, one beautifully designed detail at a time.

It’s time to treat yourself. Check into this next destination to splurge on some sparkle…
Hotel: High Tea Experience + the Baccarat Hotel | 28 W 53rd St, New York, NY 10019
Baccarat
Let’s talk luxury. Like, seriously luxury. I’m talking about the Baccarat Hotel. The Baccarat Hotel is pure glitz and glamour, from the moment you step into the dazzling lobby. It’s basically my excuse to wear my fanciest shoes and drink champagne at 3 PM (don’t judge me). Think crystal chandeliers, plush velvet, and a level of glamour that’s practically illegal. It’s like stepping into a real-life jewelry box, and honestly, I’m here for it.

Now, let’s be real, a full night at the Baccarat is an investment. But if you’re looking for a taste of the high life without the high price tag, their high tea is everything. It’s the perfect excuse to dress up and sip some bubbly.
So my advice is to treat yourself to a little bit of glamour without maxing out your credit card. Think tiny sandwiches, delicate pastries, and enough sparkle to make your day shine. For a full tour of some of their dazzling chandeliers and the high tea experience, check out my full post here.
Restaurant: Cafe Carmellini | 250 5th Ave, New York, NY 10001
Yakkity Yak – Don’t talk back, just snag a seat at Cafe Carmellini
Café Carmellini is a whole mood. It’s hidden inside the Fifth Avenue Hotel, but feels like this secret, stylish escape. Walking in, you’re hit with this indoor garden vibe – trees, magical lighting, the works. And the food? Chef Carmellini clearly knows what he’s doing.

The is to choose your seat wisely. Want to be in the thick of it? Grab a seat near the kitchen. Feeling like a romantic rendezvous? The bar is your spot. Or, if you’re like me and love a good balcony moment, snag a table upstairs and watch the beautiful people below.

And the food? My gosh, the food! Chef Andrew Carmellini is a culinary genius, and his menu is like a greatest hits album of Italian and French cuisine. You’ve got to try the Sweet Crab & Pepper Mille-Feuille. And the Duck-Duck-Duck Tortellini? It’s so good, you’ll want to lick the plate (but maybe don’t!).

But wait, there’s more! #SpoilerAlert – They bring your after-dinner chocolates on this adorable yak serving dish—it’s so quirky and cute, you’ll want to take it home.
Honestly, Café Carmellini is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s where you go to celebrate, to indulge, to feel fabulous.
And now, wrapping up the list with my all-time most memorable dining experience. Read on…
Restaurant: Daniel | 60 E 65th St, New York, NY 10065
Dinner with Daniel: A Tale of Michelin Stars and Unforgettable Moments.
And now, I’ve saved the best for last, and it’s Daniel. The Michelin-Man, himself.
Okay, so let me tell you about my night at Daniel, because it wasn’t just dinner; it was a whole experience. You know how you walk into a place and immediately feel like you’ve stepped into a dream? That’s Daniel. The mirrored arches, the classic bar, the dining room with those chandeliers—it’s all just chef’s kiss perfection.

Now, here’s where it gets good. We were having this incredible meal (seriously, Chef Boulud’s Michelin stars are no joke; every dish was a masterpiece), and suddenly, Daniel himself came over! Turns out, he knew one of my dining companions, and he came over to our table for a conversation. Can you imagine? We’re talking to the Daniel Boulud, the man behind the magic.
And then, he offered us a personal tour of his kitchen. Yes, his kitchen. The place where all those culinary dreams come to life. Seeing the organization, the precision, the passion. And for an unexpected twist, another dining companion was a former Cirque du Soleil performer who picked up a couple of limes and did an all-out juggle in Daniel’s kitchen. That was a surreal moment, to say the least!

This was the best meal of my life. It wasn’t just the food, though that was incredible. It was the whole experience—the impeccable service, the stunning decor, and the genuine warmth of Daniel himself. He has this impeccable taste, you can see it in every detail, from the art on the walls to the perfectly curated wine list. It’s clear why he has multiple Michelin stars, it’s not just talent, it’s passion.
Daniel isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a testament to what happens when artistry meets hospitality. It’s where you go when you want to feel like a VIP, to celebrate something truly special, or to just have a night you’ll never forget.
And thanks to a chance encounter, I got to see the man behind the legend, and it made the whole experience even more unforgettable. Trust me, this is one place you need to experience for yourself.”
